Penicuik Harriers Running Club are holding a Virtual Penicuik 10k this year. Our intention is to organise this virtual event and give the profits that we make to Penumbra, a Scottish charity supporting people experiencing Mental Health issues. More about the charity below.
We want runners to train for and run the distance knowing that they are helping and supporting others. There is a 10 day window that you can run your 10k. There is no competitive element to our race this year although there will be an informal leaderboard. Our aim is that you get out and run the 10k distance with someone if you can, spend time with them, talk to them and maybe go for a coffee afterwards. We want runners to place an importance on their run and understand how valuable running is and the many mental health benefits that you get from it. You then submit your evidence that you ran through EntryCentral and we will send you a medal – you can choose not to have a medal if you wish. Penicuik Harriers are covering the cost of the medals and postage so that your full entry fee goes to the charity.
Our usual ‘Happy and Friendly’ race can’t happen again this year but we hope that you will keep us in your hearts and minds when we are able to hold our race again.
The Penicuik 10k is famous for :-
A. The Hill
B. The incredible support
C. The Home-baking.
This year we can’t give you any of these things but you can : –
A. Run a hilly route (if you like)
B. Run with a friend giving each other support
C. Go for a coffee and cake afterwards
In 2020 Penicuik Harriers held a ‘Harriers Day’ on what would have been our race day and club members wore their club colours and ran, walked and cycled where they lived. We then turned our social media purple and white with all of our photos. This year hopefully we can fill our social media with your photos of you running in your race colours and make our pages very colourful indeed!
