Penicuik Harriers Open Night – Tues 6th Sept, 7pm

Penicuik Harriers Running Club would like to welcome runners of all abilities to a come and try night with the members and coaches of our club.  We understand that coming along to a running club is a bit daunting so we would like to make it easier by welcoming lots of runners on the same night to give us a go!

You need to be 18+ to train with us and annual membership is £15.  We train mainly on the flat on Tuesday nights and on the hills on Thursday nights.  There is no pressure to attend every week just whenever you can manage.  We occasionally arrange social runs in the area and get together for our annual ceilidh at the Town Hall.  Our club organises the Penicuik 10k which we welcome runners from all over the country to and have become known for being a very friendly club full of enthusiastic and supportive members.

So come along on Tuesday 6th September at 7pm to Beeslack High School and see if Penicuik Harriers might be the club for you.

Hello. I am trying to get motivated again to really get into my running and wonder if your club would really welcome a plodder like me? I am a big lady with no natural ability but I do so enjoy my running, when I actually do it! I did not know you had an open night, so missed that, but please let me know if it would be OK to come along this Tuesday and who should I ask for when I get there?

    • Susie says:

      Hi Jennie
You are most welcome to come along to Harriers tonight especially as you enjoy running so much!! I will see you at Beeslack at 7pm.
      Susie

  3. Alex Cherrie says:

Hi, is the hill training still at hillend on thurs,

    • Susie says:

      Hi Alex
Yes at Hillend on Thursday at the earlier time of 6.30pm though due to the light. You go up the path at the left hand side of the slope to the left of the old Inn on the Hill building. They start session sharp so you need to be warmed up by 6.30pm too, you can do a warm up run there or run up from the very bottom car park…. Hope that makes sense.
I hope to go and will let Bill know that you may come along.

There is a small group of us in penicuik who have recently started to go out jogging and are keen to improve and hopefully take part in 5k and 10k runs. We missed the open night last week so was just wondering if we are able just to turn up to a Tuesday class and see how we get on. We currently jog round Cornbank Park and that part of penicuk and are looking to develop our abilities.

      Hi Nicola
Sounds like Harriers is just the place for you! Feel free to turn up any Tuesday night at 7pm, but if there are a few of you then might be best to email me so we are prepared. My email is : roadrace@penicuikharriers.org If you want to go tonight that is fine as I know lots of coaches going.
The Open Night went really well with 18 people turning up. All were totally mixed ability but as we can suit all levels they seemed to enjoy it and we are hoping they come back.
We use the Cornbank Park circuit in the Winter months varying the distance each week.
      Hope to see you, Susie

  5. James says:

Hi, I was just wondering if you done a running class for children under 10?

    • Susie says:

Sorry we don’t have any Juniors. Lasswade running club have a Junior section and they have a session in Penicuik on a Saturday morning, I don’t know what the minimum age is though. Failing that, there is a Fun Athletics club in Beeslack High on a Monday night that incorporate lots of running.

Hi Russell here, the Sports Presenter on Black Diamond 107.8 fm.
Good luck on your open night.
We need this kind of sport in Midlothian and thanks to you anyone can take part.

  7. Louise Miller says:

Hi i was just wondering what time on Tuesday to come along to the open night?

  8. James bailey says:

    Hi
    Hi

What time should I come along on Thursday? Also, are you just meeting with people on Thursday or do I also need to bring my
    Kit?

    Thanks

    James

    • sooz says:

      Hi James

The open night is actually on Tuesday, not Thursday. We do meet on a Thursday for a hill session which you are welcome to come to, let me know if this is the case. The Open Night is really a come and try night so yes turning up in your kit with your water bottle is what to do.

      Thanks Susie

  9. Lindsey says:

    Hi

I am 25 years old lady who stays in penicuik and is interested in taking up something new to keep fit to meet new people so what the age range was and also are there many people my age range that trains in club. Does it matter that I have never done that much running since school.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

    Lindsey.

    • Susie says:

      Hi Lindsey

The club has an age range currently form 18 – 75(or he may be 76 now), I don’t know exactly how old everyone is but am sure we have a few runners in your age range. It shouldn’t matter that you haven’t done that much running as you can start out slowly, runners improve at their own rate and we can accomodate all standards.

Come along to the Open Night and take part or just watch.
      Susie

  10. Alex Cherrie says:

HI, is there an upper age limit to coming along, i am 51 years old, i try to run as often as i can, but is is purely recreational.I mostly run the streets of penicuik but i would like to try the hills but dont really know where to start and would appreciate any help.

    • Susie Maxwell says:

      Hi Alex
Would be great if you came along to the open night, hill running advice readily available as about half the club if not more are hill runners. No upper age limit in running…..!
      Hope to see you, Susie

    • Steve Wood says:

I would like to attend the open evening but am recovering from a long run last night, is it possible to attend and just get a feel for the club?
