Description
The Greenmantle Dash (3.2km, 200 metres) is a short hill race packed with a bit of everything – scaling walls, wading burns, traversing bogs, farm fields, steep ascents and descents, as well as a final road sprint to the finish. You are welcome to run in fancy dress – hill shoes are however advised!!
The Kid’s fun run initially follows the main race route (with alternative start to avoid the burn crossing if burn is in spate), with the turn-around point just before the main climb starts (ca. 2.3km, 50 metres).
The race starts in front of Broughton Ales Brewery.
Parking
For environmental reasons and limited parking, please car-share as much as possible. Parking is possible at the back of the village hall and at Broughton Primary School. Avoid parking elsewhere in the village so that we don’t create any obstructions for the local residents.
Facilities
There are toilets and changing facilities in the village hall and public toilets in the park close to the start (don’t rely on them to be open).
Safety and rules
This race is run under SHR rules (more details here https://www.scottishhillrunners.uk/Safety.aspx) and although it’s a short, well-marshalled race, the weather conditions can be rather grim in January. Therefore, you must carry the following minimum kit: waterproof full body cover, hat, gloves, map, compass and whistle. If you retire from the race, please inform the nearest marshal and return your number to the finish (race organiser).
After the race
There will be a get together in the village hall after the race, for the prize giving and hot soup/ drinks. Please bring your own re-usable cup and cutlery to reduce waste
